Keep it real... Really.

These days a successful online business requires more than a highly-visible website where all your product or service information is stored. It requires a commitment to site users – providing the tools and information that they need, encouraging them to share your message, and sharing straight answers to their questions. It requires truthful and transparent interaction with your potential and existing customers.

As we continuously adjust to the new online world where we have to please readers, search engines and social media sites, it's increasingly important to stay focused on creating content for your blog that is worth sharing.

All too often, content is just brain candy. It's fun, satisfies for a moment, and then it's gone. Content worth sharing touches us in a more meaningful place, and propels us to act.

Points to think about when creating worthwhile content:

Make it compelling

Be specific

Keep it brief

Emphasize quality, not quantity

Convey community or industry-centric subjects

Always write for your audience first

Just as content which is written with too much focus on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) ultimately fails to please its readers, content with too much focus on SMO (Social Media Optimization) will fail to build a solid relationship with your target audience. Striking a balance between the two is where you'll find the golden ticket.

At a time when low-quality content is finding its way onto more and more websites, you have an opportunity to separate yourself from the crowd by creating pages which are helpful, informative, engaging and worth sharing.

Show your audience how to share

Make sure you prominently display your sharing buttons so that the physical act of sharing is instantly available to your audience. Our friends at Social Media Examiner have a great post illustrating 5 Tips for Creating Shareable Content. Make sure you have a look!
