Are people even reading mobile marketing emails?

Yep!  We all have an email address or two these days and more and more of us access our emails from mobile devices like smart phones and tablets. Over 55% of users now check their mobile email at least once a day. That is some low hanging fruit right there. Go ahead and grab yourself some!

According to ExactTarget “Mobile Dependence” study in 2011, more than one-half (56%) of US consumers who have made at least one purchase using their smart phone have done so in response to a marketing message delivered via mobile email. More than half!

Inbound marketing and email marketing are two peas in a pod. One without the other keeps you from reaching your full potential. Knowing what consumers look for in an email they find on their smart phone is essential when you begin a new campaign.

OK... so what do they want to get in their emails?

The folks at E-Consultancy have put together a wonderful infographic to illustrate some of what consumers are looking for. The graphic below is just a part of their full infogracphic but gives you a quick peak inside the minds of consumers.

What should you focus on when sending mobile emails?

Here are a handful of things to keep in mind for your email marketing campaigns targeted to mobile users:

Make the "From" line pop - get their attention

Keep design simple - avoid fancy animations or too much fluff

Present the value of your offer early

Rely mostly on conversion rates to measure success

So there ya go...

Mobile email marketing is alive and well. Don't simply assume that because you don't regularly open marketing emails on your iPhone or Android that others aren't either. They certainly are and as the emails continue to improve the ease of completing conversions their popularity and effectiveness will continue to grow.

When combined with a mature lead nurturing campaign which allows targeted email automation to be included, you will reap the benefits of including email marketing in your arsenal!!
