I'll Give You Something To Tweet About

A little birdie told me that you are looking for a quick and easy way to get your business out to the public. Almost every company is using social media marketing nowadays and if you aren't I think it's about time you jump on the bandwagon. A social media site that you should definitely be using is Twitter.

I myself, have had a Twitter account since 2009 and still use it actively. Actually I am on there throughout my whole day because I feel like there is so much to keep up with. Not only do I follow my friends but I also follow my favorite celebrities, the news, stores, products I like, and much more. Everything and everyone is on Twitter making it easier to find out what is going on. If it weren't for Twitter I probably would never know what was going on in the world because I don't have much time to sit down and watch TV or look up online what is going on. Whenever I have a few free minutes I log onto my Twitter app and check out if anything new happened. Not only is Twitter great for personal use but it is great for professional use also.

In this blog I'd like to share with you how Twitter can help your business with internet marketing while getting additional exposure and keeping customers intrigued.

1. Microblogging That Takes Less Than Two Minutes

The best thing about Twitter is the fact that it can take you less than two minutes to tweet something. All you have to do is think of something that is 140 characters or less and tweet about it. It has to be something eye catching considering people just scroll through their timeline. It is perfect for small businesses because they most likely don't have specifically one person doing all of their social media advertising and don't have time to write a long blog. This is an opportunity to microblog about your company and let them know about yourself. Take a 5 minute break from your normal work and figure out something creative to tweet. You want to let your customers know what you have been up to and it doesn't take much to do so.

2. Gain New Customers

Twitter is a place where you can meet new people and share with them what you offer. For businesses, Twitter helps you get your name out there to people who have never heard about you before. There are many ways that you can spread the word throughout the Twitter world. You can do anything from retweeting, replying, mentioning, to hashtagging. I know, it's like Twitter has their own language. Don't worry I'll catch you up...

Retweeting

This is when you take someone else's tweet and share it with everyone that follows you. It will be put on your profile for all to see. This is great to get your audience interested in you because they saw you retweeted them. When someone retweets you it is even better because then all of their followers will see what you posted and hopefully find interest in you. Make your tweets retweetable. If they interest someone enough they will want to share with everyone that follows them.

Replying

It's pretty self explanatory meaning that you can reply to anyone's tweet. Once you do so, it will show up on their timeline and on your own. However, only people that follow both users can read the conversation. Replying to someone else's tweet can help them gain an interest in you and start a conversation up. Maybe they are interested in something that you can offer them and they never knew you before. Now you've just found a new prospective customer. Share the love and hopefully they will share it back.

Mentioning

It's what you do when you want to bring something to someones attention, but want your followers to see it also. In order to do so, you type @username anywhere in your tweet and it will show up on both your pages. Anyone can click on the username and be brought right to their page. This is a great opportunity to have someone mention you for their followers to see. If someone has something great to say about you this is a perfect way to show everyone and catch their interest. It is perfect for customer reviews that are less than 140 characters long.

Hashtagging

It's very popular right now in which you use to organize conversations by specific topics. In order to use it, you place #word to show what you are talking about. This is also clickable and will bring you to the search results where you can view other tweets about that topic. For example, if you are a chef and put up a picture of delicious food that you cooked, you can upload the picture and put #delicious or #pasta after it. It someone is looking for a delicious or pasta dinner to cook that night they may search that hashtag and come across yours. They may then, click on you username and find interest in you. Also, you can create your own hashtags for your own business. If you are hosting a webinar, create a hashtag about it so others can see what viewers are saying about your webinar. If you would like to find hashtags that you should be using for your business, sign up for Twilert, and it will send you an email with the latest hashtags for your interest.

Another way to gain new customers is through a site called Lanyrd. As mentioned in a previous blog, Lanyrd is where you can find conferences to attend through Twitter by either seeing what people you follow are going to or by browsing through a specific topic. You can receive new followers from others that are attending the same conference as you or from those that you met at a conference. You know you have similar interest so why not follow each other?

3. It's A Free Way To Get Them To Your Website

A great thing about social media marketing is the fact that everything can be free. Small companies that don't have a budget for advertising should definitely take advantage of this. It's free internet marketing and can help immeasurably. Most small companies become successful because of word-of-mouth. Twitter takes that theory to the next level. This technique isn't spread just to a couple of people but to everyone that follows you. If your company impresses someone they can easily tweet/mention about how great their experience was and soon their followers will be looking into your business. This is a great way to drive traffic to your website. Once their curiosity takes over and they check out your Twitter page, the next step is to click the link for your website. You can also tweet pictures and links that will direct them to your website. There are many ways to get them there and you just need to put a little effort into it.
