So you have this awesome website that you had built for your company. Wow is it amazing or what?!? Next, you send the link to all your friends and family. You set up a Facebook Page and over 200 people already like it! Everything is really coming together. Except it has been over a month now and no new customers are coming through your front door. So what’s the deal?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
You need it and you should get on it now. Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving your website’s organic/natural/FREE ranking on a search engine’s results page. Below are some examples of search engines in case you didn't know.
- Bing
- Yahoo

- MTwebSearch
- Exite
- Blekko
- Lycos
- Webcrawler
- Infospace
If your site is about training dogs in Newark NJ, then when someone types in “dog trainer Newark NJ,” best case scenario your the first one at the top of the list. It’s common sense that the higher your site is in the search engines the more visible you are and likely your site will be visited. How many times have you really clicked past the 1st page of results when looking for a service on Google?? That's how you get customers. They must be able to find you. Hubspots article on 20-Revealing-Stats-Charts-and-Graphs-Every-Marketer-Should-Know talks about how 40% of on line shoppers begin by using a search engine. The fact that your site is amazing is great, but if no one sees it what's the point? SEO doesn't just happen overnight. Some effort must be made to push you to the top.
What can you do for SEO?
- Produce quality content and regularly publish new content to your website
- Share all of your new content on social media tools such as Faceboook, Google Plus, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Myspace, your companies blog and so many more
KeyWords
- Start by creating a Keyword list. If you are not sure what some good keywords could be for your site check out Google Ad Words
Next, put together a keyword strategy. Keywords should be in the page’s title tag, URL, and used throughout the body of the page. Use keyword variations. Do not overdo it so that your content is unrealistic e.g. " This site is A Martial Arts site specifically about the Martial Arts we teach here at our Martial Arts studio Workout Times Mixed Martial Arts Academy." This is way over the top. - Check out Hubspots Article on Keyword Tips
