Though it may be obvious to some internet users, many people today are still surprised to learn that YouTube is the world's second largest search engine. More searches are done on YouTube than Yahoo or Bing. Some facts:

    • We watched more videos on YouTube in September (14.2 million) than we conducted Google searches (10.6 million)

    • There are 1.5 million business-oriented queries on YouTube every week.

    • All videos will be transcribed, searchable, and indexable in the very near future, which will make YouTube an even more powerful search engine.

Instant impressions matter most on the web, and few people are drawn to reading paragraphs of text. Not that text is dead. Text provides search engines with context that can't be retrieved from any other signals. Written content is certainly necessary for all web pages, but relying on large gobs of it may drive visitors away and ultimately hurt your SEO results. Balance is the key.

Today, video is hot and YouTube is the place to be. So optimize your YouTube videos and make use of that channel.

Plus, there's an extra bonus: Google uses (mostly YouTube) videos in their universal search results. In fact, chances of getting a video onto Page 1 in Google are a lot higher than getting a new page there.
